Hey Loves! I hope each and every one of you are having a fab day!
Today being "Valentine's Day" I thought it would be the perfect time to share a little story about how my Valentine and I met! This isn't really a traditional love story but romantic none the less...
If I remember correctly we met around the summer of 2014, I was newly 23 and out of an unproductive long term relationship that just didn't quite add up. I had been working full time at Karma Salon in Barboursville, WV and weekends in downtown Huntington at Jockey Club. My main goal at that time was to work my ass off and put as much money away as possible so I could spend some much needed time traveling and moving to a new city.
If your a bartender reading this trust me we all know what its like to be constantly hit on girl/guy and we normally just roll our eyes and keep on ha! Well the only thing that makes this story different than the others is persistence...Jockey is a small, swanky jazz club where the vibe just gives you the courage to talk to anyone, but maybe part of his courage was liquid this particular night.
Myself and two other magical drink makers were behind the bar when I first caught sight of he and his friends so as typical I walked over and said "Hey Guys! What can I get you to drink?" and then it hit me the handsome that was standing in front of me and I about died. I can't even remember what he ordered but i'm sure I scuffled for a Corona when he'd asked me for Jack'n Coke.
I'm not sure about you guys but I 100 percent believe in energy and trust me the energy he put off had me shook. I gave him his total and asked if he wanted to start a tab or pay with cash and then realized "he thought he was cute" by starting to flirt with me but still a little bitter I wasn't about to let some random guy make me laugh so I started to avoid him by staying on either side of the bar (he was in the middle). Every time I passed by he would ask question after question (i'll save you all the gore) and I politely tried to ignore him but from what his friends say "he was Jordan cashin' free throws hittin' a 100 point game" with the game he was spitting on me. My face started to get red and flush with embarrassment from the "relationship, are you in love?" questions which I refused to answer, so I kindly tried to hide in the back room when my boss realized what was happening.
I can hear her now saying (latina accent) "ohhhh baby, you know he's so cute, go talk to him, give him a chance, girl he's so sweet to you" so I finally walked back to the bar where he proceeded to 21 question me all while i'm serving other customers...who knows what the hell I even put in those drinks because I was so nervous I couldn't even muddle a mojito. Then he hands me a hand drawn stick figure on a bar napkin with his number beside it. So typical bar guy and without him seeing I tossed it in the trash.
He kept his persistence though, did the whole found me on every social media platform and sat at my bar every weekend after that and would stop by on weekdays because "he was in the neighborhood" haha, I'll admit I was a little bit gullible but energy doesn't lie.
Our conversations were so good, we became pretty great friends and It took a few weeks of convincing me to let my guard down before I finally gave in ...well kinda.... I had been working late one evening and WV bars close at 3am so around that time I get a few texts from Ivan....."Hey, Would you please be able to pick me up and take me home? I'm at this house with Jayson (his partner in crime) and it would be awesome if you could drop me off at my house so I'm not here all night" I had shown my boss and she said "Yes baby hes so close, pick him up he's right down the road and take him to his place, he's your friend don't worry"....so I grabbed my tips and headed to pick him up and this being our first 1 on 1 interaction I thought for sure this would never work out. I'm not a drunk carpool type of gal.
He hopped in my car and gave me directions to his home and tried to make a little small talk, when we finally pulled up in the driveway he said "Would you like to see a tour of my bachelor pad" and I replied "Okay, but It's after 4 am and I have been at salon all day and bar all eve."
Showing me around his place he was much more nervous than I, because he started showing me "oh this is where I keep my broom and trash can.....and this is where I keep my silverware."
I headed home and come to find out the next day I guess he felt guilty enough to tell me "he was already home safe and sound and had convinced Jayson to come back to his home, pick him up, and take him back to where Jayson had been, so that he could get me to pick him up and take him home, all so he could spend time with me. Such a tongue twister and Such a silly romantic weirdo.
Each and every love story is special in its own way and I hope you enjoyed my little version of How Ivan and I met and I encourage all of you to share your Love stories below, I would LOVE to hear how you and your significant others met as well!
I hope you have a blessed Valentine's Day and if your single this lovely holiday don't sweat it! Some of my favorite Valentine's were spent stuffing my face with box after box of coconut chocolates and buying flowers for myself that I actually liked! (preferably black roses) ;)
What are some of your plans for this Valentine's Day?
